FAQ ❚

❚ What's going on here?
Your character has just been kidnapped and brought to the Outer Bleed--the space in between universes. They've been drafted into a group called the Guardians that take missions in the various universes to fight against rogue Guardians who are trying to upset the balance and destroy the world.

❚ What's the Outer Bleed like?
The space that the characters will be occupying is miles upon miles of plain with gentle, rolling hills. Each characters gets a cottage and about 1/2 a square mile of land. In the middle of all the cottages is a small grouping of buildings that could be a town if anyone lived there. It's a grocery store, a pharmacy, a clothing store, a bar, and the mission board where missions are posted. If one wanders outside the cottages far enough, they'll find a dense forest filled with pools of water. But it's not advised that they go there yet.

❚ Who's the woman talking to my character when they wake up?
That's Sarai. She's the liaison between the old Guardians and the new ones. If your characters have any questions, they may be able to catch her when she's putting up new missions on the board. And, no, Sarai isn't the name she used in her home universe.

❚ What's this about not being able to use names?
The way the magic of the Outer Bleed works relies on words. Words that belong to one world or another--names of people, attack names, named weapons, magic spells, et cetera--can't be used as they loosen the thing's tie to the Outer Bleed. And if a tether is completely severed, the thing or person may slip back into the wrong world. The only exception to this naming thing is place names. Those are safe.

This basically means that your character is going to have to find new names for almost everything, something that's sure to be a long process! But, the upside of this is that they now have access to all the magic of the Outer Bleed. If they can find a way to combine their will and their words correctly, they can not only utilize everything they could back home, but they can do almost whatever they can dream of with magic. This will take a long time and effort to learn how to use. You won't need mod approval for anything because different characters are bound to be more adept to using that sort of thing than others, but if you're abusing the magic of the Outer Bleed in your tags, we may need to have a Talk.

❚ What are missions like?
Well, I can tell you what they're not like. Characters won't be sent to assassinate anyone. They won't be sent to make anyone's life worse. They may be sent to steal things or fight against some evil--but any missions that are a little more grisly will only be given out personally by Sarai. Other than that, it's pretty much anything. Characters could be sent in to witness an event. They could be sent into a world to leave something there, or save someone's life, or point them in the direction of someone else. Sky's the limit.

❚ Where do missions take place?
Other worlds! These can be worlds from works of fiction, original worlds of your own creation, worlds that seem to run parallel to our own, worlds that are AUs of fictional worlds... If you can dream it up, you can go there. There are only two exceptions to this: you can't play someone actually coming into the real world and break the fourth wall, and you can't go to Narnia. The door to Narnia has been forever shut.

❚ Do I need mod permission to send my character on a mission?
Nope! Go have fun.

❚ So is this an action game or what?
It's a whatever-you-make-it game. Technically, you could have your character hang out in the Outer Bleed and never go on missions and play this purely slice of life. Some of the mod-run plots may effect the Outer Bleed instead of other worlds, but there will always been an opt out in plots. On the other hand, you could have a character going on missions with other characters near constantly. It's up to you.

❚ How do the network and logs comms work?
The network is set up on old desktop PCs that are inside the cottages. These are literally the only way to access the network. You can post using text and voice. There's no video yet, though if a technologically or Bleed-magic savvy character wants to build webcams for every computer, they can feel free to do so. The logs comm is for in-person interactions and for threading out missions.

❚ Can I hack private posts and threads on the network? What about going anon?
Nope! The network runs on Bleed-magic and the private function on the network is unhackable. As for anon, everyone is technically anon on the Network. When they post, it gets tagged with a cottage number. People will only know the name behind the cottage number if they're told what it is. And, yes, this does mean you can break into someone else's cottage or an empty cottage and use the computer there to post to the network for shenanigans.

❚ The language barrier. What happened to it?
Bleed-magic smashed it to itty bitt pieces.

❚ Can I kill off my character? What about someone else's?
Yes, and yes, but you need permission from the other character for the second one.

❚ What'll happen to them?
If they die in the Outer Bleed, it'll be a minimum of three days before they wake up in their cottage again with Sarai hovering over them. She'll warn your character that too much death is a bad thing and leave them with some pain killers for the death hangover that lasts a few days after being resurrected. But you really don't have anything negative to worry about until your character dies three times.

❚ So... what happens when they die three times?
It's a surprise. Contact a mod if you're planning on doing this.

❚ What happens if my character dies while on a mission?
They're permanently dead. You can't play them anymore and they also can't go back to their canon universe. Which means your canonmates' memories either get altered to reflect a canon without your character after that canon-point or they have the horrifying realization that maybe you're not all from the same universe...

❚ I want to smash up a bunch of stuff in the Outer Bleed!
Please don't. That will make Sarai mad. And you wouldn't like her when she's angry.

❚ I still want to smash a lot of stuff.
Poke a mod and we'll work something out.

❚ Let's talk OOC mechanics.
That's not a question, but okay.

❚ What's the reserve/app process like?
Reserves and apps are always open, and reserves aren't needed to app here. What is needed is an invitation from someone already in the game. If you're interested in the game but don't know anyone, shoot me a message and we'll talk.

❚ Reserve challenges? App challenges?
Nope. Everything is first come, first serve.

❚ OCs? AUs? What about multiples of characters?
OCs are indeed allowed. CRAUs are allowed as well. As of right now, fan-created AUs are not allowed. Multiples of characters are also allowed if they're from different universes. So DCAU!Batman, Nolan!Batman, and Comics!Batman would all be allowed, as would Batman from an Elseworlds. Two versions of Batman from the same universe and different canon points would not be allowed.

❚ What happens to non-human characters?
They can stay as they are in the Outer Bleed. They may need to be magically transformed depending on where they go on missions. But that's true for human characters too.

❚ How's the activity check?
Non-existent. No, seriously. This is essentially a very structured invite-only musebox. I ain't doing activity check for that. I may pop up every couple of months and say YO WHO IS STILL INTERESTED IN THE GAME or poke someone if they haven't been active in a while to see if they want to stick around. But there's no AC you need to complete every month.

❚ How do hiatuses work then?
You just take them. It'd be nice if you let everyone know in the OOC comm that you're going to be MIA for however long too.

❚ Can I canon-bump my character?
Not at this time, no. So pick your canon points carefully!

❚ I have a plot suggestion! Or just a suggestion in general!
Great! Plot ideas and concrit are both fabulous. Go leave a comment over on the plotting/suggestions post.

❚ Why do you keep saying we when there's only one mod?
Because it means I don't have to mess with the FAQ if I recruit another mod.

❚ I've got a question that wasn't mentioned here.
Leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer it.

❚ What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
An African or a European swallow?
